Kenny Lattimore - Anatomy Of A Love Song (Full Album)

Kelly Price - Feels So Good

"I'm trading in my fears and insecurities, gonna let myself forgive and free my self to live..."

Ready For Battle

occur but once

and having occurred

fall into dust

and occur not again

                                        exist in soul

                                        but speak only

                                        of time and space

                                        and the words fly off

                                        to nowhere

at us now

the clock races on

time prepares itself for battle

pages turn

heads are bowed.

Jill Scott - "You Don't Know" (Official Music Video)

BREAKING: Loretta Lynch has finally been confirmed as U.S. Attorney General, after waiting longer than any Attorney General nominee in modern history for a Senate vote. NWLC (National Women's Law Center) applauds the confirmation of this supremely qualified woman to be the nation’s top law enforcement officer.

Rufus " Tell Me Something Good "

Tell Me Something Good

My friends are always sending me emails about terrible things that happen in society- news of police brutality, murder, personal violations, kidnappers, isis, evil greedy politicians living in ivory towers, etc.. I know that I need to know what's going on in the world but it really hurts my spirit. I decided I needed to counter all the negativity with news stories and/or pics  every now and then, that make me smile.
Today I googled 'positive black pics'   and this is the first pic I saw. It made me smile.
I will call these pics (or stories)  Tell Me Something Good

What are you reading?

Today  I took a break from working on my short story collection ( Designer Strait Jackets & Other Short Stories)  and I started reading

One Day I Will Write About This Place

A very compelling ( and vivid) memoir by Binhavanga Wainaina.  I love it so far. It's a Kenyan portrait of the artist as a young man...suffused by a love affair with language.

What are you reading?

Note to self

I couldn't sleep

I tossed and turned for about 30 minutes, then I got up and made some sweet potato biscuit ham sandwiches with a honey mustard glaze, and then I was able to fall asleep.

I'll give them to my neighbors in the morning.

I am.

If I am I because I am I, and you are you because you are you, then I am I and you are you. But, if I am I because you are you, and you are you because I am I, then I am not I and you are not you. – R’Mendel of Kotzk

Rabbi Zev Pomeranz says a self-definition that is based on other's perception is untrue and deceptive. this is true.
Simply stated, what that means can be summarized by the quote by Oscar Wilde- “Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.”
While that’s correct, let’s look a little deeper and ask why be you. If your life has a purpose (and it does) then you cannot find and fulfill that purpose without you being you. Your value is the unique you. There is no one else like you and therefore no one else can fulfill your purpose. Giving and sharing that unique you matters.
You are not just matter. It is you that matters.

If I try to be like him, who will be like me?” — Yiddish Proverb

Whitney Houston - Oh Yes

Monday, April 20, 2015

I wanted to show you my kitty. His name is Isaiah. He is 15 years old. I've had him since he was 7 months old. An ex got him but changed her mind so I took him in to be a playmate for my female kitten of the same age, Persia ( she past away at 12 on the same day and year that Whitney Houston died) He acts like he's 4. Still playful, still meowing insistently for milk when I get home from work, still eating a lot, still chasing things. Still Isaiah, thank God.

In the past 24 hours

  • I saw an inspirational video by Tyrese (once I find out how to embed it I will put it on the blog)
  • I baked a Champagne Blueberry Bundt Cake for a party
  • I baked Mango Rum Mini Bundts for work.
  • I told myself that I am one day closer to finding my wife.
  • I turned off the television after watching 3 consecutive episodes of an experiment called Married at First Sight, on the FYI channel, but not before recording future episodes. It's about 3 couples who met for the first time at the altar. They were put together by 4 match makers/psychologists/sociologists, and they have to stay married for 6 weeks before deciding whether to stay married or get divorced. I guess this is their response to feeling lonely and desperate. I found it interesting because with 2 couples there were instant sparks that are fizzling as they get to know each other, and the other couple who felt no sparks and were going through the motions but are gradually beginning to like each other.    I'll watch it until the end. Personally, because I believe in marriage as a sacred institution, I can't imagine making a vow to love honor and cherish in sickness and in health in good times and bad times rich and poor etc., someone I did not love, to begin with. I have met many people who initially seemed to be beautiful people, who ended up being ugly on the inside.

Alice Dunnigan was the first black woman journalist to receive press credentials to the White House, State Department and Congress.

The teacher-turned-journalist grew up in Kentucky and became head of the Washington bureau of the Associated Negro Press. A specialist in politics, Dunnigan covered Harry Truman’s presidential campaign.

She served on the President's Committee on Equal Opportunity in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. She was the author of “A Black Woman’s Experience: From Schoolhouse to White House.” Dunnigan once stated: "Race and sex were twin strikes against me. I’m not sure which was the hardest to break down."
