What are you most thankful for?

Specifically,
For my sister Cheryl,
For Rita and Brian giving me the honor of naming me the Godfather of their beautiful  intelligent daughter,
-for my entire family,,
For my best friend Steve,
For all my friends,
And for my job.
And for being submissive enough in the presence of law enforcement, thus avoiding having been murdered by them. So far.

That awkward moment

when i saw a friend's wife and i asked what their plans were for the long Thanksgiving weekend- and she tells me her husband left her 10 months ago for a coworker.

he and i talk every single day, take coffee breaks regularly. meet up for happy hour at least once a week. i would always ask him how his wife and kids were doing, and he never let on that he left her and was seeing someone else. and he knew everything that was going on in my life.
it was strange.

i guess you never really know people.

Regarding the Murderer Du Jour

When I was a child, I remember overhearing a conversation where my friend's grandmother was talking about her memories of black men being lynched and how their mothers and wives would cry and scream during the lynchings. She said that when she gave birth to a boy, who died a few days later, she was glad because she would never experience the pain of seeing him lynched. As a small child, I didn't understand what she meant, but when I think about situations like what happened today when the grand jury told the world that Michael Brown's life was of zero value and thus can be murdered by cops like all the other black boys past, present and future-I have no words....................... And we criticize other countries for their human rights violations?............ This is like Trayvon Martin all over again.

Keep it real #songonrepeat

If I took away your language and your trust and taught you to be ashamed of where you come from how would you feel? how would you feel? If I locked you up for a 100 years or more sold your children off like candy in a store lets keep it real lets keep it real If I made fun of your accent when you talk but in the video your dialect I caught lets keep it real lets keep it real If I pat you on your head like you're a pet (“you're the most beautiful black woman I've ever seen”) Then I get surprised when you get all upset how would you feel? how would you feel? If I told you now that my best friend is black (“Tyrone is my homeboy”) see would you trust me more than you did 2 seconds back? Lets keep it real. Please keep it real. I forgive all of your ignorance of this. but my forgiveness does not let you off the hook “Reparations” is the next song on my list.

:)

I received my first royalty check from Amazon Desktop Publishing in the mail over the weekend, and I had to call them to be sure the check they sent me was meant for someone else! Apparently people in Australia, the U.K., New Zealand and France like me. A really nice birthday present indeed.

#Seeing

I want to close my eyes so I can see how things really are.

- Donny Hathaway

I love the Lord, He heard my cry.

This was the instrumental that was playing as Solange Knowles walked down the aisle at her wedding over the weekend.
I love this so much.

I know that's right

Love, from now on

I went to Wisconsin to celebrate my sister's birthday and my own. With the exception of November 11-12 (my birthday and the 24 hours following), my trip was great. I have the best, most loving, supportive sister, brother-in-law, nephews,God-daughter and family and friends.
For my birthday I drove to Racine, to spend the day with (               ). This was a mistake that will never happen again.  It's no mystery why those who love (               ) do so from a distance.  Add me to the list now.
I'm surrounding my self with love and supportive people. Negative, bitter, evil, hateful, jealous, hypocritical people have no place in my life, period. If you bring nothing but bitterness, negativity and drama to the table, don't be surprised when everyone leaves.

Note to self

Sometimes you have to love some people from a distance.
I'm learning this the hard way.

That is all.

#fromadistance

There are some people that are worthy of  my love but they make it difficult to do so, close up,  so I have decided to continue to love them, but from a distance. If they ever need me for anything I am there, as promptly as possible, but if they don't need me for anything I would rather be as far as I can, not for their sake, but for my sanity.

Do you have anyone in your life that make it hard to love? Like, you know they mean well, and that they have a good heart, but for the sake of  your sanity  and to avoid their making mountains out of molehills, you need to stand back?
